Goals : The objective of this week is to make students aware of energy issues from the perspective of electrochemical devices for energy conversion and storage (battery, fuel cell, supercapacitors). The use of hydrogen as a new energy carrier will also be discussed. ;

At the end of the training, students should be able to:

- Describe a fuel cell and explain how it works;
- Discuss the role of temperature in a fuel cell: powering and shutting down;
- Describe a battery and explain how it works;
- Name the different battery systems and list the advantages and drawbacks of the different devices;
- Discuss the difference between battery/supercapacitor;
- Explain the contribution of hydrogen in the energy mix (safety and energy);
- List the main H2 production processes and the advantages and drawbacks of each.
- List and compare the different storage techniques (be able to make a simple volume calculation, etc.).
